Thank you to Netgalley and HQ for approving me for this.
Having loved Sarah’s other Christmas novel, Once Upon A Christmas, I was excited when I saw that this was available to request on Netgalley and ecstatic when I got approved – and then I forgot about it, but was also waiting for closer to the holiday to pick it up. I loved the story and how it centred around a mother and her estranged daughters, and the way that their relationship was explored and gradually repaired as the novel progressed. I thought that the character arcs were very well-done, and could definitely see the development of Gayle (the mother), Samantha/Sam and Ella over the course of the novel. Sam learns how to be herself and let love into her life, Gayle realises her mistakes of the past and apologises for them – not to mention coming clean about why she did the things she did when the girls were children, and Ella really learns to stand up for herself to her mother who has never seemed to approve of her choices. I also loved how the three of them collectively apologised about what happened when Sam and Ella last saw their mother, and Gayle’s realisation of why Ella chose not to tell her certain things – and Michael is such a supportive husband which just made my heart melt; the two of them are also amazing parents to their daughter who is absolutely adorable. Although it wasn’t fantasy, the atmosphere was also so magical, just the way that Sarah wrote the characters’ surroundings and their interactions,
A lovely heart warming story, well-written and I definitely connected with the characters.
If you’ve read this yourself, what were your thoughts, and have you read other works by her?
You have wings. Believe in them and yourself, and you will fly.
