A Review of….The Human Cosmos arc

Thank you to the publisher for sending me an arc copy of this!

Title: The Human Cosmos: A Secret History of the Stars

Author: Jo Marchant

Publisher: Canongate Publishing

Star Rating: 4 (it’s kind of impossible to put non-fiction books through CAWPILE, so I just give a normal star rating)

I have always been a fan of history, learning about our past and what makes humans who we are as a race (even if I didn’t do great at the subject in school, though I tried very hard) and have read a few books on the subject in the past – however, I don’t think I’ve ever read a book that sets out human history the way that Marchant’s has; through a study of the sky, the Moon and stars and Sun, cave paintings and such, and not through Anthropology or Archaeology etc.

I really liked the way that Marchant split the book into 12 chapters through which she discusses human history from different angles; Myth, Faith, Time and Ocean, to name a few. Having it written that what was being discussed much clearer than if it had been written as just one whole novel – and far easier to follow. I learned so much reading this, that I don’t remember ever being taught in school during history lessons – you might say I feel like I learned more reading this one book, than I did in all the lessons I had with my history teachers.

A relatively short review, I feel like I’ve said everything I want to in these two small paragraphs, haha.

If you also read an arc of this, what did you think?

You have wings. Believe in them and yourself, and you will fly.

Kath xoxo
