A Review of….The Creakers

img_20200627_204115Title: The Creakers

Author: Tom Fletcher

Publisher: Puffin Books

CAWPILE: 9.29 (5*)

Although I have read two books by Tom, these have been YA and  co-written with his wife Giovanna – I had yet to read any of his children’s books, until I picked up The Creakers and I am so happy that I did, because I loved this book so much.

I love the way that Tom would slot in little narrator chapters every now and then, speaking directly to the reader in between the main chapters – but sometimes also within the story chapters with the story itself. I thought Lucy was such a sweet, cool, strong character who actually stopped and thought about what the adults’ (this is not a spoiler, if you’ve not read it as it’s in the blurb) disappearance meant and tried to figure out a plan of action. Some of the characters’ names were adapted from those of real people which made me laugh at times because they were so funny – but it was also sweet as he added his sons’ names into the mix too. I found the Creakers quite comical as well, and their world was really intricately woven which gave them or depth. Finally, I loved the addition of the illustrations throughout the book, as they really helped bring it to life.

If you haven’t read this for any reason, I highly recommend you do; it will have you giggling throughout and you won’t want to put it down.

You have wings. Believe in them and yourself, and you will fly.

Kath xoxo
