it Have you ever read a book you adored, and hoped there was an adaptation for it but one has never been made – or hoped that an adaptation was in the works, but there isn’t one? Listed below are the novels/manga/graphic novels I’ve either immensely enjoyed or absolutely loved, and wish would be adapted into films, TV series etc. . If you have similar thoughts about any of them, don’t forget to leave a comment below. As usual, these are not listed in any particular order.
Summoner (The Outcast, The Novice, The Inquisition, The Battlemage) by Taran Matharu
Ever since I discovered what used to be The Outcast on Taran’s Wattpad page, and first read The Novice, nearly 5 years ago and the following novels of the series, I’ve imagined what the film or TV adaptions would be like. Having followed Fletcher’s story the whole way, and Arcturus’ story as well. I have developed images of the characters and a “film sequence” in my head , so wishing and hoping for an adaption may not be the best – but I think if the right director(s), screenwriter(s) and studio picked them up it could be amazing, and I would go to the cinema as soon as I could when the first film came out (I hope it would be 4 films instead of just one, the events of these novels would not fit into the one film).
The Wolves of Mercy Falls (Shiver, Linger and Forever, Sinner) by Maggie Stiefvater
It’s been a little while since I last read the trilogy ( I need to re-read it again, though I haven’t read Sinner once yet) but I can still remember so much about the events of all three books. The story was so immersive for me, and every chapter generated images of what was going on inside my mind, sort of like a running picture that only ended when the novel did – though not as vividly as Taran’s novels. If I saw a trailer for Shiver as a TV/ Netflix show or a film at the cinema, I would definitely get excited and watch it as soon as I could.
The Winnowing Flame Trilogy by Jen Williams
This High Fantasy series was…..amazing to read. It was so descriptive and well-written, and the world building – it was amazing (though it doesn’t quite top the Summoner series as my favourite). It is another one of those series that I’d love to be re-imagined in the form of a TV series or film, but fear that a lot of it would be changed, because it is full of so much detail and events. I do not wish to think how much would be changed or completely removed by the screenwriters – but in contrast to that, if it were adapted into a series or movie I won’t rule out watching it.
The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
I don’t know why it took me so long to start the series, but once I started I couldn’t put them down, from Cinder through to Winter and Stars Above. The world-building of this series, much like in the Summoner and Winning Flame novels, is amazing and evokes much within the mind. The characters are amazing; vibrant and come alive on the pages. This series, I feel like, would be another great contender for adaptation.
These are just four of a number of series I have loved and wish had an adapt, but – at least to my knowledge – currently don’t. If you’d like to see more posts like this, or posts similar to this, leave a comment down below saying what sort of things you’d like me to cover!
