I don’t think I’ve done a post like this before, but I have had (a small amount of) fun compiling my list for it.
If you have read and enjoyed any of the books and book series on this list, that’s excellent and I am happy for you but please do not try to convince me to read them. I have made the choice not read them, and telling me how amazing either of them are isn’t going to change that.
Note: some of the books included I have started but did not finish.
The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare
I just don’t have the urge to read this series, though I may revisit her Infernal Devices series as I enjoyed the first two, but never read the third.
Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
This one of those series that is both intimidating to me, because pretty much all of the books are whoppers (as far as I have seen), and doesn’t appeal to me: it just isn’t my cup of tea.
All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
I tried reading this a little under a year ago for a readathon prompt, but unfortunately I ended up stopping about 70 pages in and swapping it out for another book. I know for a fact, that I won’t be picking this up again.
Witchborn by Nicholas Bowling
Another book I have attempted to read, but didn’t get very far before putting it down. This was really disappointing for me, as I was so excited when I went into it, and I don’t see myself picking it up again.
Delirium by Lauren Oliver
I bought this about a year and a half (maybe two years) ago for my best friend, for either her birthday or Christmas, and last year (I don’t remember exactly when haha), I asked her if I could borrow it, as well as one or two others – including Witchborn. Needless to say, it sat on my bookshelf for a good amount of time, and I pretty much forgot about it; when I eventually did remember, and pick it up from my shelf and reread the blurb, I don’t know I didn’t want to read it anymore. It seems that, in the time it had been lying on my shelf I had subconsciously lost interest in reading it, and I doubt I ever will: Kath’s reading brain has spoken.
Bruja Born (Brooklyn Brujas #2) and Wayward Witch (Brooklyn Brujas #3) by Zoraida Córdova
Although I read and enjoyed the first book (initially gave it 5 stars), and listed the other two as “Want to Read” on Goodreads soon after which was around June/July time last year. However, I recently found my eyes alighting on Labyrinth Lost (#1) once or twice and realised I hadn’t loved it as much as I initially thought I had; reducing my rating to 4 stars instead of 5. Extending on from this I came to the decision that, although I had enjoyed reading the first book, I hadn’t enjoyed it enough to read the following two books and subsequently removed them from my Goodreads shelves.
These are only a few of the stand-alone books and series I know I will never read – if I included all of them, this post would be very long indeed.
You have wings. Believe in them and yourself, and you will fly.
