Title: Secrets and Seashells at Rainbow Bay
Author: Ali McNamara
Publisher: Sphere (imprint of the Little Brown Book Group)
Release Date: 27th June ‘19
COWWT: 24.9/ 25 (5/5 stars)
Thank you to the lovely Clara for sending me a proof copy of this amazing book, I loved it!
Character: 5
I didn’t love any one of the characters in this novel more than another, which doesn’t often happen to me if you’ve read my previous reviews. I loved how determined and independent, and protective of her son Amelia is, but also how sure of himself Charlie is and also have a real soft spot for Benji because of how lovely he is to both of them – I feel like all the characters have something about them that makes you love and appreciate them (but then, that is just me I don’t know what others who read the book will see the characters).
Ooh! Factor: 5
There was plenty in this novel that surprised me; a few parts of it really made me raise my eyebrows or do a double-take – but I won’t go into the details of them as I don’t want to give any spoilers away for those who wish to buy the book when it’s released.
Writing Style: 5
I’ve always loved Ali’s writing style, as she writes in a way that really immerses me in her stories. The way in which she wrote this one in particular really made it pop; the characters and the location they were based were vibrant and alive.
World Building: 4.9
This isn’t a fantasy novel, so I can’t comment on the world building as I usually do, but Ali has truly worked her magic in creating the world within Chesterford Castle and the mysteries it holds within and honestly made everything come alive in my mind.
Tone: 5
I felt like the main tone of this particular Ali novel was definitely determination and hardwork, with an underlying romance that didn’t overshadow the rest of the novel.
Congratulations again to Ali for 10 years of published and loved works!
