Book Haul!

Hello my lovelies, it’s been rather a long time since I last did a book haul, and last time I think there were only two books in it haha, but this time around I have more than two, which I’ve bought/received over the last few months or so as I’ve been waiting until I had a good number of books, to do this – these are listed randomly, and not in order of when bought or received (ARCs aren’t going to be included).

*Bought with a Waterstones gift-card.

Book images are at the bottom of the page.

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Shwab

I’d been hearing a lot of good things about this book, and it had also been recommended to me by Jade from Jadeyraereads on YouTube in reply to a comment I posted on one of her videos saying I was searching for new reads and if there were any books she’d recommend to me and this was one of them, and I trust her opinion a great deal so of course I picked it up hehe. I’m reading it at the moment, and am loving it right now – in fact, by the time this post goes up I may well have finished it, so keep your eyes out for a review post.

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas

I received this as a birthday present from my best friend in the world, Tashi (I’ve known her a long time) as I’d read A Court of Thorns and Roses and she thought I’d love the second one, and I am very excited to pick this up!

Notes On a Nervous Planet by Matt Haig

I did actually request an ARC of this from the publisher, though unfortunately they only had a select number so they very kindly sent me a copy of The Chosen Ones by Scarlett Thomas. This has probably been in the “Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry Third Year Potions” handled crate that my dad bought be in Aldeburgh that is currently acting as my “books I want to read” box / on my bedside table for longer than any of the other books in this haul – not because I don’t want to read it, but because other books have pulled my attention away from it, but I will read it before the year is out that is something I am promising myself.

Open Road Summer by Emery Lord

I think I’d been eyeing this one for at least a couple of weeks before I bought it….though I can’t remember the reason, it probably had something to-do with my read 6 buy one book resolution but eventually I couldn’t hold back any more and bought haha – it was part of the Buy One Get One Half Price thing they do too, so I also got the book below. The cover alone drew me to Open Road Summer , and then I read the blurb and was like, I need this!!

The Book of Hidden Things by Francesco Dimitri

The cover of this one is gorgeous, and the title is really intriguing (at least it was to me, haha) and then what really grabbed me were the blurb and…like, the first paragraph hehe. If I’m being honest, I think I’m more eager to start this one than Open Road Summer and I expect I will do after finishing A Court of Mist and Fury.

*Show Stopper by Hayley Barker

I actually met Hayley in the Waterstones where I live when she came in to do an author talk about Show Stopper and also I think the sequel which is Show Stealer, and it was funny because I’d only just bought the first one about an hour before the talk she gave so parts of it were sort of spoiled but….my short term memory is rather bad so I don’t actually remember what she said, haha. She was so lovely too, and I am never going to give this book away or sell it on because it’s personally signed.

*A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

I hadn’t actually heard of this book, until I got the weekly Waterstones newsletter email the other day, which talked about a novel that fans of the All Souls trilogy would love and the blurb really intrigued me but I wanted to have a look at A Discovery of Witches which is the first in the trilogy, and loved the look of the cover and also the blurb also pulled me in so I decided to get it. I’m so excited to get started – but also envious of people who have Sky, because A Discovery of Witches has now been made into a Sky Original Production and we don’t have Sky at home 😦 .

*The Mermaid by Christina Henry

I’d been eyeing this one for some time before I picked it up, because I wasn’t too sure about it the first time I read the blurb, but I thought I’ll wait a bit and then come back and see how I feel looking at it then ; and it just so happens that the next time I read the blurb I decided I wanted to buy it after all…I guess it came from looking at with new/fresh eyes, as I think it was after work I looked at it the first time and was rather tired, haha.

Stay true to yourself, and never let anyone or anything deter you from the course you wish to take.
