Although I’ve not read Homer’s The Odyssey I do know of the story of Odysseus; his killing of the twelve suitors and twelve of Penelope’s maids as well as what occurred during the twenty years he was away from Ithaca, and his wife and son. I myself always wondered why he killed the twelve maids and what Penelope was really up to while her husband was away.
I loved The Penelopiad , as it gave me the chance to read another version of Odysseus’s story, this time through Penelope’s point of view; learning about what happened and what she got up to those twenty years her husband was absent from her life – especially the story behind her twelve maids and the twelve suitors.
Stay true to yourself and never let anyone deter you from the course you wish to take.
